OPENING SOON

Dr. Margaret Morgan Lawrence

The center is dedicated to the memory of Margaret Morgan Lawrence, MD, a founding Board member of the Harlem Family Institute and the first African-American woman pediatrician and psychoanalyst. Powered by the grief and pain of losing her brother, Dr. Lawrence set out to create change in medical and mental health care. Pioneering as the first of many accomplishments as a woman of color, she paved the way to situations, to learn to garner their inner strength, and make something powerful to return to the community. That is the essence and vision of HFS. It is an honor to carry on Dr. Lawrence’s vision for the communities she committed herself. Expanding the institute’s reach.

Promoting Mental Well Being

HFS will provide the full range of psychological/social-emotional and psychiatric evaluations, including administration and management of psychotropic medication as needed in the Harlem Community located at the Margaret Morgan Lawrence Center for Family and Child Development.
